Anonymous Hacktivists + Occupy Activists Restoring computers for the underprivileged. #OpEquip on Freenode IRC. You can also find us on Twitter @OperationEquip
Operation Equip is an Open Source initiative brought to you by activists across the global revolution, from Anonymous to Occupy we are mounting an educational initiative across America, and the world.
We would like to see this idea built upon by a community of those dedicated to changing the course of human history by steering equipment where it's needed most: Our poorest communities. If you can help, by all means please give your input, contribute ideas, and help us build a new society.
#OpEquip is this:
We are mounting across the occupations an initiative for the collection of old unwanted laptops and desktops for wipe/repair/consolidation. We will clean them up and install Open Source education software for distribution in poor communities to families without computers. Technology is a game changer, and providing those resources to those who need the equipment is a way to ensure that education is open, and that new lines are drawn in future economies. If we can expand the minds of children and youth, and get them used to using computers, we can give them a hand up in education and schooling.
#OpEquip is a multifaceted operation with many different possibilities, as we work together, we hope to create a community of discussion, where ideas are shared and the best tactics mount into creating a world where the internet, computer technology and its power to change lives come to the hands of every child.
If you're interested in the How To, we're still putting together the manual for the idea, but we welcome you to join us.
